MY BODY, MY CHOICE:
Abortion Rights
in the European context
format: interactive workshop
duration: 3 - 4 hour
price: 3500 Kr (ex. moms)
In an era where the fight for women’s rights should be progressing, many European women continue to face severe restrictions and societal pressures that limit their bodily autonomy and reproductive choices. While Denmark is moving toward a future with more progressive abortion laws, the situation is starkly different in other parts of Europe. Countries like Poland, Malta, and the Faroe Islands impose harsh restrictions, while women in Italy, Croatia, and Hungary face increasing pressure to relinquish their right to choose.
What to Expect:
Over the course of this workshop, we will dive deep into the interconnected themes of bodily autonomy, women’s rights, and the right to free choice, with a particular emphasis on the European context. Using interactive theatre techniques, participants will have the opportunity to:
Challenge Societal Norms: Explore the ingrained cultural and societal pressures that restrict women's freedom and autonomy, and work collectively to question and challenge these norms.
Explore Pathways to Empowerment: Through creative expression, participants will imagine and rehearse new ways of thinking and acting that promote and protect women’s rights.
Share Personal Experiences: Engage in a supportive environment where stories and experiences related to reproductive rights can be expressed and heard.
Why This Workshop Matters:
Theatre of the Oppressed is more than just a performance tool; it is a powerful method for fostering critical thinking, empathy, and social change. By embodying different perspectives and engaging with complex issues physically and emotionally, participants are not just discussing the problems—they are actively working through them, finding new strategies and solutions.
